Adding
Accessories to your New Swing Set
Accessories for your swing set include a trapeze, slides (of all shapes
and sizes), rock climbing walls, trapeze rings, gliders, boats and cars
(among others).
The swings come in a variety of shapes and sizes that can be adjusted as
your child grows. There are high-back swing sets which are molded to fit
your tiny child; bucket seats for those children who are somewhat bigger
that will provide support while the child is learning how to balance
himself and hang on. Then, of course, there are swings for older
children that also contain trapeze rings and gliders. These are
conducive to children who have achieved a certain amount of
coordination, but whose muscles are still developing.
A child has many opportunities to use his imagination on the playground
equipment. One fairly common accessory is a steering wheel. The child
may feel like he is the captain of a sea boat, a race car driver, or a
pilot. In his imagination, he may choose a different vehicle to "drive"
each time he plays on the equipment. He may be sailing around the world
or exploring the depths of the sea in a submarine, or driving around a
race track on his way to victory.
Playground equipment may contain straight slides or spiral slides and
slides of different lengths. The equipment may also contain a
rock-climbing wall or a playhouse or fort. The rock climbing wall
enables your child to use his imagination to transform himself to the
height of a tall mountain. The playhouse or fort enables the children to
have get-togethers with their friends while engaging in their own
imaginary activities.
These types of activities will enhance your child's imagination, while
engaging in outdoor activities that will also increase his awareness,
coordination and physical skills and provide him with years of fun.
