Basics
about Wooden Swing Sets
Wood swing sets usually are more expensive that steel or plastic outdoor
swing sets, but they are much more sturdy that steel or plastic swing
sets. So the extra cost is probably worth it in the long run.
Wooden swing sets generally support 50 pounds more per child that other
outdoor play sets. They also last much longer than their metal or
plastic counterparts. A metal or plastic swing set will start to wear
down within a few years, whereas a wooden set will generally still look
nice.
A pressure treated lumber is utilized on wood sets and the sets can have
a warranty of 10 to 25 years.
Wooden swing sets usually have more aesthetic appeal than the metal or
plastic outdoor swing sets. They are much more flexible too because of
the different types of stains that can be utilized. It can even add a
great deal of appeal to your backyard landscaping.
Metal, and especially plastic, swing sets may have a certain color
appeal, but they do not generally look as nice in your backyard as a
wooden set. Wooden set provide a natural look in your backyard as it
often blends in with nature (trees, etc) to enhance the beauty of your
backyard, rather than detract from it.
Keep in mind that you will be looking at your swing set for many years,
as your children enjoy it, so you will want to make a wise decision in
the type of swing set you select for your backyard.
