Wood Swing Set Types to Choose From

One of the most common woods used in swing sets is the Southern Yellow Pine. This wood may be pressure treated with ACQ to protect it from rot, decay and termite attacks. ACQ is designed specifically for treating wood. It provides treatment without using preservatives that may be toxic; ACQ uses copper rather than chromium or arsenic.

A wooden swing set made with Southern Yellow Pine looks attractive and will enhance your backyard, and of course, it provides years of fun for your children.

A stain should be added to protect your swing set from discoloration; the stain also provides an attractive finish.

A California redwood is another attractive type of wood for a swing set. If you do not want to use pressure-treated lumber, redwood is a nice alternative because it is natural and also makes for a beautiful swing set. Redwood will not decay due to weather and environmental elements or by invasions from insects. You must maintain redwood by using a sealant each year so that it will keep its color. When the redwood naturally changes in appearance due to weather, it usually becomes a grayish color.

Some swing sets are now made with premium teak wood. Teak wood has long been thought of as an expensive wood that has been used in yachts and fine furniture for years. In fact, it has a reputation for being a luxury wood. Teak is not only a beautiful wood, but is extremely durable as well. It would look nice in any backyard and enhance the landscaping.
